Solar Panels for All!

Innovation Strikes Again

Are you one of the millions of Americans that would love to have your electricity produced by solar power, but don’t have the rooftop space to do that? Well, American ingenuity strikes again, providing a solution as simple as writing a check. No muss, no fuss, and a lot of feel-good endorphins to follow.

How it Works

[link url=”http://qz.com/826192/you-no-longer-need-to-own-a-solar-panel-to-reap-the-financial-benefits-of-solar-energy/” title=”Arcadia Power developed an innovative method”] of allowing you to buy into a network of solar energy fields, then have that network offset your power bill by the amount of solar energy capacity you’ve purchased.

If you buy a little solar capacity, then your energy bill is offset a little. If you buy as much solar capacity as you typically use in your electric bill, then your bill will go to zero and you’ll be using 100 percent renewable energy. Check the website for the details.

An Example

I’ll use myself as an example. As my monthly average, I use about $100 per month from my local electric utility. If I were to buy one solar panel from Arcadia at a cost of $350, then my electric bill would be reduced by about $5 per month. That means my purchase of the solar panel would be paid off in about 70 months (the length of a typical car loan) and after that, the panel would be paying me without cost.

Or, if I chose to offset my full electric bill, I could buy 20 panels from Arcadia at a cost of $7000. Again, the panels would pay themselves off in 70 months.

Plus–and here’s something really cool–because the solar panel does not reside on your rooftop, you can carry this value to wherever you live and wherever you move to. It doesn’t matter to Arcadia which company you buy your electricity from or where you live. You carry this benefit anywhere you live.

I don’t know about you, but I’m all in. Personally, given the state of our politics and having endured this brutal election season, I need all the endorphins I can find. Plus, the opportunity to not be beholden to a utility company that burns dirty fuels, destroys the salmon, and otherwise harms my Earth is pretty irresistible.
