Severe Weather Travel Impact Possible

Many of the [link url=”http://abcnews.go.com/US/wireStory/threat-tornadoes-south-days-christmas-35922461″ title=”states from the Great Lakes to the Gulf Coast are under some type of severe weather threat“], including [link url=”http://www.accuweather.com/en/weather-news/major-storm-to-hammer-central-us-blizzard-snow-severe-weather-flooding-ice/54352350″ title=”thunderstorms, tornados, hail, high winds, torrential rains, and/or flooding“].  There are already reports of power outages and [link url=”http://www.al.com/news/mobile/index.ssf/2015/12/early_storms_knock_out_power_f.html#incart_article_small” title=”reports of severe weather in Alabama“] localized flash flooding due to the this weather system.  The [link url=”http://abc7chicago.com/travel/weather-could-impact-holiday-travel-wednesday/1133309/” title=”weather may impact holiday travel“] throughout the region affected.

MERS is Officially Over in South Korea

South Korea announces the [link url=”http://www.france24.com/en/20151223-south-korea-announces-official-end-mers-outbreak?ns_campaign=reseaux_sociaux&ns_source=twitter&ns_mchannel=social&ns_linkname=editorial&aef_campaign_ref=partage_aef&aef_campaign_date=2015-12-23&dlvrit=65413″ title=”end of a seven month outbreak period of MERS“] that killed 36 people.  Overall, the disease caused almost 17,000 people to be home quarantined and infected 186 people.  South Korea is the fourth largest economy in Asia, and the outbreak impacted both the tourist industry and consumer spending.

China Landslide Update

It has been more than [link url=”http://www.cnn.com/2015/12/23/asia/china-landslide/index.html” title=”60 hours since the landslide occurred, but rescuers found two survivors“] amid the debris.  Reports indicate that one later died from his injuries, but the other, though weak, is in stable condition in the hospital.  Three people are still listed in serious condition, with a total of 16 hospitalized.  The mudslide occurred at a dump site that used to be a rock quarry.

Blast at Istanbul Airport

A [link url=”http://www.france24.com/en/20151223-turkey-plane-cleaner-woman-killed-blast-explosion-istanbul-airport-sabiha-gokcen?dlvrit=65413″ title=”blast that occurred on the tarmac at Turkey’s Istanbul airport“] has reportedly claimed the life of one person and injured another.  Cause of the blast has not yet been identified.

Kimberly Arsenault serves as an intern at the Cleveland/Bradley County Emergency Management Agency where she works on plan revisions and special projects. Previously, Kimberly spent 15 years in commercial and business aviation. Her positions included station manager at the former Midwest Express Airlines, as well as corporate flight attendant, inflight manager, and charter flight coordinator. Kimberly currently holds a master's degree in emergency and disaster management from American Public University.
